The world is coming…

…and arrived in the United Arab Emirates on 9th December 2009, when Abu Dhabi won the rights to host the FIFA Club World Cup. Ten days later, we took our seats alongside 43,000 other fans to witness a Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona side beat Estudiantes 2-1 to claim the title.

In 2008, we supported OBAD in the development of the tournament identity, and were subsequently appointed to execute a full design and marketing campaign for the event. Our scope of work included the design and development of a multitude of collaterals, including the tournament program, merchandising, match tickets, stadium signage and even the tournament’s Official Mascot, named ‘Dhabi’.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to work on a FIFA tournament, with our office of football fanatics loving every minute. Never one to shirk the call of duty, Mark, our CEO, donned the ‘Dhabi’ costume for an, ahem, ‘energetic’ half-time performance. Reports of ‘Dhabi’ suffering what appeared to be a cardiac arrest, shortly after that particular appearance, were never actually proven. This work has been done during my tenure at AAB.
